I was once a professionally-trained classical flute player who performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the northeast US, until I discovered Irish traditional music later in life and never looked back. Starting with a tin whistle and an old guitar, my primary instruments are now Irish flute and uilleann pipes, with some piano, fiddle, and melodeon thrown in.
I have performed at the Boston Celtic Music Fest, the New England Folk Festival, the Boston Irish Beer Festival, and the O’Carolan Festival in VT. I co-organize (with Joey Abarta) the activities of the Boston Uilleann Pipers Club, and teach beginner uilleann pipes through the CCÉ Boston Irish Music School. I am an accomplished arranger and backer on piano for the Boston Comhaltas monthly ceilis.
I’ve also written a short (and free) book called The Piper’s Picnic: Chanter Techniques for the Uilleann Pipes (and How to Practice Them).
You’ll frequently find me playing at pub sessions in the Boston area with the many top-notch local musicians who have inspired and encouraged me.
